The Sierra Fund has partnered with the Mono Lake Committee and the Sierra Nevada Alliance in sponsoring legislation to create a Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

If successful, Assembly Bill 2600 (Laird) will create a new state commitment to protecting the Sierra's critical watersheds, wildlife, recreation lands and wilderness areas.

The region produces two-thirds of the state's drinking water.
